Hiccups, lymphatic congestion.

Do not use if your client has chewing gum in their mouth as they may aspirate the gum.

Do not use when a client has a sore throat or bronchitis as the sudden suction may draw an infection deeper into the lungs.

Do not use if your client has had a recent rib fracture.

Place one hand over  the other on your clients sternum and press. Have your client inhale deeply, exhale deeply, then attempt to inhale deeply again. As your client is attempting to inhale suddenly release the pressure on their sternum. This will cause a sudden inhalation which can break the cycle with the hiccups.
