Have your client lying on their side with their hips to the edge of the table, bottom leg toward their chest and top leg off the edge of the table. Have them rotate their top leg externally. I ask the client to turn their knee toward the ceiling. If you ask them to turn their foot toward the ceiling they may evert their foor instead of rotating at the hip.
Press your clients knee toward the floor, then have them press their knee toward the ceiling using just 10% of their strength. After 10 seconds have your client press their knee toward the floor and then assist them with the stretch.
The difference between this and the Gluteus Medius stretch is the external rotation of the thigh.
