For a muscle cramp in the gastrocnemius or soleus, plantarflex your client’s ankle, then have them try to dorsiflex (raise the front of the foot) against your resistance. When the cramp releases, you can massage the gastrocnemius and soleus and gently dorsiflex the ankle.
Do not forcefully stretch a muscle that is cramping!
