Referred Pain Pattern

Trigger points in the quadriceps may be found near the origin of the rectus femoris at the AIIS, or on the distal end of the quadriceps near the knee, especially in the vastus medialis. Active trigger points may refer pain along the front of the thigh to the knee.

While pressing into the trigger point with your thumb or fingers, pull up the side of their thigh toward the point. Find the position where there is no pain in the trigger point. Hold for 30 - 90 seconds, or until you feel a release, then bring your client back to a neutral position while continuing to hold the trigger point, and ask your client how it feels.
