The long stroke is a great way to begin a back massage. Start with a heel press going over the top of the shoulders, pivot at the deltoid and come back with your thumbs across the top of the shoulders. Then glide your thumbs down the erector spinae muscles on either side of the spine. Be sure to keep your thumbs in line with your forearms so you don't stress the metacarpal phalangeal joint. At the base of the spine do a heel press over the sacrum then come up the sides of the body with your palms and repeat.
