About Dr. Mally

Dr. James Mally is a massage teacher, educational content producer, and creator of MassageLibrary.com. He has been doing massage professionally since 1976 and teaching massage classes since 1979. His initial training was a 1000-hour massage program at Lindsey Hopkins School in Miami. He later attended Bastyr University in Seattle, graduating as a Naturopathic Doctor in 1984.

In 1990, he founded Healing Arts Institute, a California state-approved massage therapy school. He owned and directed the school until 2011 and graduated over 3000 massage therapists.

He produced his first massage video, Deep Tissue Massage, in 1996. The video employed a 3-D computer skeleton and is believed to be the first massage video to use 3-D computer graphics. He produced other videos (now DVDs) and workbooks on Sports Massage, Swedish Massage, Side-Lying Massage, and Massage Cupping. These DVDs and workbooks are being used in massage schools worldwide. His Side-Lying Massage DVD has been translated into Japanese and is very popular in Japan.

Dr. Mally sold his massage school in 2011 to have more time to see massage clients and develop, practice, and refine massage techniques. He operates a teaching practice where he works with massage therapists and their problem clients, sharing assessment techniques and strategies to help the clients. Selling the school also allowed Dr. Mally to travel to teach his workshops internationally, produce more DVDs, and develop an online massage library at www.massagelibrary.com.

Dr. Mally is approved by the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) as a continuing education Approved Provider. Provider #451329-10

Dr. Mally was inducted into the Massage Therapy Hall of Fame in 2018.

Touch Therapy for the Critically, Chronically, and Terminally Ill – Roseville CA

Sat. November 2, 2024  9 am – 6 pm
Sun. November 3, 2024  9 am – 1 pm
12 Hours – $225 (Class materials included)

Touch Therapy / Conscious Touch, is best defined as a gentle, rhythmic, light compression modality this is much like lymphedema treatment (not lymphatic drainage).  It can be performed through clothing, sheets or many other barriers that may be present so there is no need for a client to disrobe.  There is also no need to use oils or creams while administering this modality which helps prevent contaminating the client’s area.

This workshop will teach you to design a session which enables you to provide attention to your client from the top of their head to the soles of their feet.  This modality provides incredible benefits through gently improving circulation, which is especially important for those who are mostly physically inactive / stagnant.  It helps them process much of the pharmaceutical remnants left behind in the lymph nodes which are located all over their body.

The session puts the provider in contact with a majority of the client’s body using a combination of gentle, balanced, light compression strokes that often puts the client into the deepest, most restful sleep they have had in a long time.

Another wonderful aspect of Conscious Touch is that it helps bring clarity to a client’s thoughts and memory.  It is also wonderful for use on infants, centenarians or anyone in between.

This workshop is taught by David Dowdy.

David has been a therapist in the massage and bodywork industry since January of 2007.  He began spreading his learning wings and expanding his offerings by gaining certification in Swedish, Shiatsu, Deep tissue, Sports massage, Ortho-Bionomy (Isometric Release, Phase 6, & Position Release), Touch Therapy for the Terminally Ill, Hospital Based Lymphedema Treatment, Oncology Massage, and Fibromyalgia Treatment.  He is also a Reiki II practitioner of the Usui Method of Natural Healing and is an Ordained Reverend.

Through all his training, the area that resonated with him the deepest was the Touch Therapy for the Terminally Ill.  After integrating a gentle form of circulation massage into the program and expanding the care to include the critically and chronically ill, he put it all to use, teaming up with Hoffmann Hospice (a nonprofit hospice organization in Bakersfield and Kern County in California) as a volunteer therapist.  Once the hospice leaders recognized the fantastic results David was having with every client he visited, they began having David train all their Certified Nursing Aides in the Touch Therapy modality.  David has worked with hundreds of critically, chronically, & terminally ill clients through multiple hospices and convelescent organizations requesting services, and in 2010 was blessed with the opportunity to take on the directorship of the 501(c)3 nonprofit organization Healing Hands, Healing Hearts.

Since taking the reins of Healing Hands, Healing Hearts he has established another branch in Elk Grove, CA which serves the Northern California areas in and around Sacramento.  This has forged wonderful relationships with the Sacramento Hospice Consortium and other providers in the area that utilize Healing Hands, Healing Hearts as a service and training provider.

David’s own heart is driven with the passion to see that he and the dedicated, passionate team of professionals along his side will establish at least one branch of Healing Hands, Healing Hearts in every state in the USA and eventually around “The Great Blue Ship that sails around the Mighty Sun” (Lyric borrowed from his favorite ELO song) before he transitions from his Earthbound Body.
