Origin
Occipital ridge and spinous processes of all cervical and thoracic vertebrae.
Insertion
Spine of the scapula to the acromion, and the lateral third of the clavicle.
Actions
Upper Fibers – work with levator scapulae to elevate the scapula
Middle Fibers – work with rhomboids to retract the scapula
Lower Fibers – work to depress the scapula
