Spiral Line Stretch

5/5 - (2 votes)

Indications

Spiral Line Stretch helps to increase mobility for the lumbar and thoracic vertebrae.

Cautions

Do cautiously at first, especially if there are disk problems or pain on rotation.

Do not use it with clients with spondylolisthesis.

When pulling on the ASIS, use the flat part of your fingers so that you do not dig into the tender area medial to it.

Always have your client’s bottom knee toward their chest to minimize lumbar lordosis.

Technique

Have your client lie on their side, facing away from you. Have them lie diagonally on the table with their hips to the edge closest to you, their bottom arm behind them, their bottom leg toward their chest, and their top leg off the edge of the table.

Pull back on your client’s ASIS while pressing up the same side of the spine going from L5 to T1.

Variations

This also can be done by pulling the client’s knee back and down toward the floor while working up the side of the spine.

Work with your thumb going up the laminar groove while pulling your client’s knee back and down.
