Plantar Fascia – Soft Tissue Release

5/5 - (8 votes)
To work into the plantar fascia, gently dorsiflex the ankle and extend your client’s toes. Work in a proximal direction, going from the metatarsal heads toward the anterior aspect of the calcaneus.

For clients with plantar fasciitis, I first work with relaxing the Gastrocnemius and Soleus. Sometimes the plantar fascia is too tender to be massaged.

In the video, I am working with the client prone. It is also possible to do this work with your client supine.

Caution:

I use my thumbs to do the work and have never had thumb issues. You may find it easier to use your middle phalanges or your knuckles to do the work.
