Cautions:
Always have the other knee up to minimize lumbar lordosis.
If there is pain go slower or use less suction.
If your client has knee pain try moving the cup toward the knee rather than pulling away from the knee.
Technique:
Have your client supine with their hip at the edge of the table and their leg hanging off the edge. They should have their other knee up to minimize lumbar lordosis.
Place the cup just proximal to the patella, then have your client kick back as you slowly slide the cup up and down the quadriceps. Kicking back engages the hamstrings and inhibits and stretches the quads.
Work up the medial and lateral sides of the quads.
You can also cup over the iliotibial band in this position. Cupping will lift the IT band off of the Vastus Lateralis as it is contracting and stretching.
The Iliotibial Band is like a long tendon for the Tensor Fascia Lata and Gluteus Maximus. The band itself does not stretch, so the best way to get length in the IT Band is to work with the Tensor Fascia Lata and Gluteus Maximus muscles before working directly on the IT Band.

If you use suction and release(create suction and the release suction) on the areas that are tender or tight. it will loosen up the tissues.and be sure to lift the cup!
