Cradle your client’s upper arm over your forearm and bring their arm overhead. Have the heel of your hand on the superior border of the scapula. Place the heel of your other hand on the axillary border of the scapula. This hand can also hold the drape, or your client can hold the drape with their free hand. Place your fingers around the medial border of the scapula.
Move the scapula and humerus as one unit so that you are moving the scapula over the rib cage. Move in a circular direction, going one way then the other, feeling for and releasing restrictions in the movement.
Keep your client’s arm overhead so that the scapula is pressed into the back. This also helps to keep the client from slapping their face.
