LEARNING WORKS BEST WHEN ALL THE SENSES ARE INVOLVED
We learn by visual, auditory, and kinesthetic means. Traditional methods for learning anatomy emphasize the visual. Using all three modes for learning enhances your learning experience and helps you retain the information.
This CD helps you by providing the auditory component. It can be difficult to learn or memorize the name of a structure if you are not sure how to pronounce it. Pronouncing the words with the CD can help you to learn faster, retain more, and retrieve anatomy names when taking tests. Learning how the words are derived helps in understanding the meaning of the names of the muscles and bones. The background of Superlearning® Music assists in creating an atmosphere for enhanced learning and memorization.
The palpation and stretching exercises on the CD help you feel the muscles on your own or a partner’s body, providing a kinesthetic component. This helps to ground your experience of anatomy in your body. As you know your own body better, you are more effective in working with others.
To integrate this information with the visual component we provide keys (see below) so that you can work with your anatomy book as you are listening to the CD. If your anatomy book is not listed here please contact us and we will create a key for it.
This CD was originally developed to help in the instruction of anatomy at Healing Arts Institute in Roseville, California (near Sacramento). Healing Arts Institute offers training programs in massage therapy and acupressure massage, as well as many continuing education classes and workshops in massage and bodywork. Instructional videos & workbooks on Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, and Sports Massage are also available by calling 800-718-6824 (Toll Free).
Keep in mind that there are many variations in pronunciation of anatomical terms, and there is much acceptance of these variations. Although we have researched the pronunciation of the various terms used on this CD, you may have learned it differently. This, of course is perfectly acceptable, just as long as you recognize us as the ultimate authority. 😉
REFERENCE KEYS FOR EASIER LEARNING
To help with the visual aspect of learning anatomy, we have created reference keys to different anatomy texts, so that you can look up the muscles and bones as you are hearing them on the CD. To view these you will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader.

June Motzer –
Dear Dr. Mally,
I want to thank you for creating the anatomy CD. My students love it and wish they had it a long time ago. It reduced their fear of learning all the Latin and Greek words for the muscles and bones. Students with learning disabilities have found it especially helpful. The increased confidence students have with anatomy makes the rest of our teaching easier.
Your CD has worked so well for us that we adopted it as a required part of our massage therapy training. Thank you again for making such a wonderful learning tool.
Sincerely,
June Motzer

Kitty J. McBride-Stern –
Hello Dr. Mally,
Thank you for including the Musculoskeletal Anatomy CD with the Massage Therapy Certification course, as it has helped me tremendously in learning the anatomy for the course. It contributed greatly in my earning 100% on my mid-term exam, and I expect to do as well on my final.
Thank you again Dr. Mally,

Nikki D’Amours –
Dear Dr. James Mally
I would like to take a moment to let you know just how much help your Musculoskeletal Anatomy CD was for me. I’m one of many people with a learning disability. I was so scared to go back to school. It was not the most positive situation for me and many others. So to go back to school, I wanted to for years but fear always held me back.
When I signed up for massage classes and received the books terror set in. I reminded myself what I tell my kids who also have a learning disability. If you start something you finish it and all I ask is you do your best.
So I took a deep breath and started listening to the CD along with looking at the textbook. For the first time I was getting it and remembering it. I was amazed and so excited at that moment I knew I could do it.
For the first time I’m not sitting in the back of the class, I’m up front and confident of myself. I’ve had a couple of classmates ask if I was one who was always at the top of their class. I just laughed then said no, I’ve been using the CD that they hadn’t been. Despite being plagued with a learning disability all my life, I was able to learn the muscles and bones and pass the anatomy test with the help of Dr. Mally’s CD.
It was a good feeling. I always wanted to know the answers and tried really hard to do just that but couldn’t. With the CD and the text book I did it and it feels wonderful. Thank you Dr. Mally you’ve made a difference in my life, you made me feel good about myself and confident in myself.
